Injury issues continue to pile up for the Seattle Mariners, who lost two key contributors in Sunday’s loss to the Washington Nationals.
First baseman Josh Naylor was forced to exit in the sixth inning after fouling a pitch off his right shin, and right-handed reliever Andrés Muñoz left in the eighth inning with what the team called lower back tightness.
Naylor ended up finishing his at-bat, flying out to centre field, but was replaced defensively by Patrick Wisdom in the next half-inning.
The 28-year-old Canadian went for X-rays, which came back negative.
Naylor was 1-for-3 with a double in the contest. For the season, he’s now slashing .253/.315/.372 with eight homers in 68 games.
Muñoz, meanwhile, faced just two batters, allowing a hit and a walk before leaving with the team’s training staff.
The star closer has struggled to a 5.92 ERA over 27 appearances.
Seattle is already dealing with notable injuries to the likes of Cal Raleigh, J.P. Crawford, Randy Arozarena and Matt Brash.
