The 43-year-old right-hander made only one start this season — allowing five runs and eight baserunners over 3.2 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks — before being placed on the injured list with left hip inflammation.
Verlander is a two-time World Series Champion, three-time Cy Young Award winner and won the 2011 American League MVP. His 3554 strikeouts rank eighth all-time in MLB history.
While he struggled in his lone outing so far this season, Verlander was more than serviceable in his age-42 season, recording a 3.85 ERA with 137 strikeouts and 52 walks over 152 innings with the San Francisco Giants.
