The Toronto Tempo lost their leading scorer on Tuesday night.
Brittney Sykes went down with a non-contact injury and was helped to the locker room during the Tempo’s game against the Indiana Fever.
The Tempo later announced that Skyes would be unable to return due to a foot injury. Starting guard Julie Allemand was also ruled out with a headache.
Skyes fell while attempting to cut to the basket and did appear to put weight on both legs while being assisted off the court.
The veteran guard had 11 points, two rebounds and three assists before exiting at the 6:46 mark of the third quarter.
The 32-year-old entered play on Tuesday averaging a career-high 20.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists over 14 games. She ranks third in the WNBA in scoring.
Sykes signed a two-year max contract worth $2.38 million over two years with the Tempo in the off-season, joining Marina Mabrey to become the league’s first “million-dollar backcourt.”
Lauded for her defensive play, Sykes has been voted to four WNBA All-Defence teams.
Tempo rookie Kiki Rice and centre Nyara Sabally were both out for the game with ankle and hamstring injuries, respectively.
