Already letting loose at his team’s Stanley Cup parade, Nicolas Deslauriers was given another reason to get festive.
The Carolina Hurricanes signed the winger to a two-year, $1.75 million extension worth $875,000 in average annual value, the team announced Saturday.
While the numbers were likely hammered out before the parade, Deslauriers put pen to paper on the deal while at the podium in Raleigh.
The Hurricanes acquired Deslauriers from the Philadelphia Flyers at the March 6 trade deadline for a 2027 seventh-round pick.
“Nic has fit in with our locker room and culture from Day 1 when he got to Raleigh,” general manager Eric Tulsky said in a statement. “He provides a veteran presence and adds a physical element to our roster.”
Though he only made seven regular-season and one post-season appearance — finishing with one assist total — the 35-year-old brought grit to the Hurricanes’ lineup, picking up 39 hits over his eight games.
His lone playoff game came in the first round against the Ottawa Senators, where he suited up for only 3:09 of ice time as the Hurricanes completed the four-game sweep.
The Lasalle, Que., native has 53 goals and 53 assists in 708 career regular-season games, split between the Hurricanes, Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens, Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.
