Bianca Andreescu wins qualifier to reach Wimbledon main draw

For the first time in nearly two years, Bianca Andreescu will play in a Grand Slam main draw.

The 26-year-old Canadian defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Thursday in her final qualifying match for Wimbledon. Now, she will play in the main draw at the All-England Club for the first time since 2024.

Andreescu’s last Grand Slam main draw appearance was the 2024 US Open, where she fell in the first round five years after her triumph there. She has struggled in the several years since, making it past the third round at a Slam only once.

Andreescu will learn her first-round opponent on Friday before action begins on Monday.

Elsewhere, Canadian Katherine Sebov fell to Iryna Shymanovich, also of Belarus, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Sebov was looking to qualify for her second career Grand Slam.
