The CHL’s top goalie last season is going to the Stanley Cup champions.
The Carolina Hurricanes used a fourth-round pick (125th overall) on Ottawa 67’s star Ryder Fetterolf.
An undrafted OHL rookie out of Pittsburgh, the six-foot Fetterolf posted a 2.07 goals-against average and .923 save percentage in 41 games in his rookie season for Ottawa.
Because he isn’t as big as other goalies, Fetterolf wasn’t expected to be a high pick.
Fetterolf is leaning toward playing NCAA hockey at Penn State next season, but has not closed the door on returning to Ottawa.
Another notable goalie was taken two picks after Fetterolf by the San Jose Sharks.
Brady Knowling, ranked No. 1 on NHL Central Scouting’s North American goalie list for this year’s draft, went 127th overall to the San Jose Sharks.
The six-foot-five goalie has signed with the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit for next season after playing the last two years for the U.S. National Development Team Program.
