A productive veteran is joining the San Antonio Spurs’ ranks to supplant a young core.
Forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million deal to join the Western Conference champs, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday.
Harris, 33, had a solid two-year stint with the Detroit Pistons, working as an effective floor-raiser and helping the team’s youngsters bloom into a No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season.
He averaged 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 46.9 per cent from the field and 36.8 per cent from three-point range through 63 games.
Harris went on to average 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists, but shot 42.5 per cent from the field and 29.2 per cent from deep in 14 post-season games before the Pistons were knocked out by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round.
A 15-year NBA vet, Harris has averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 1,033 games, split between the Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers.
