USA’s Balogun given red card for hard challenge vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina

Folarin Balogun’s night ended early on Wednesday.

The USA striker was given a straight red card in the Round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina for a dangerous tackle on Tarik Muharemović.

Balogun didn’t seem to intend to injure Muharemović, but his challenge landed near his Achilles, studs up, and he stomped on his ankle in the follow-through.

The referee didn’t give the red right away, but following a VAR review, he sent Balogun off.

Balogun scored the lone goal in the game thus far, and has three in the World Cup.

The 24-year-old will be suspended for the Round of 16 game should the U.S. make it through.
