Spain’s Fabian Ruiz, Gavi gifted weight in tomatoes for World Cup win

Fabian Ruiz and Gavi won’t be seen in the produce section of a grocery store anytime soon.

The two Spaniards have received their weight in tomatoes from their hometown after helping their nation win its second World Cup.

Ruiz and Gavi are from Los Palacios y Villafranca, a part of Spain known for its production of tomatoes. They returned there on Tuesday to celebrate their victory.

PSG’s Ruiz weighed in at 185 pounds, and Barcelona’s Gavi checked in at 150 pounds.

The tradition of presenting tomatoes began in 2010, when Jesús Navas was presented with tomatoes after Spain won its first World Cup.

Now, it’s continued with Ruiz and Gavi.
