The Atlanta Hawks are opting for continuity after making the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Head coach Quin Snyder has agreed to a multi-year extension with the Hawks, the team announced Monday.
The financial terms of the deal were not revealed.
This move marks the second major move for continuity for the Hawks this off-season after the franchise promoted general manager Onsi Saleh to president of basketball operations, and gave the Canadian an extension.
“Quin has been a phenomenal leader for our team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and sustained growth as we build toward high-level success,” Saleh said in a release. “Over the past three seasons and amid an evolving roster, we’ve seen clear, measurable progress, which is a testament to the culture he’s established and the leadership he brings every day.
“He has created an environment where our players are challenged, supported, and empowered to grow, and that focus on player development has elevated our entire program.”
Snyder, 59, enjoyed his most successful year in Atlanta in the 2025-26 season, helping the Hawks to a 46-36 record, good for a sixth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
The 46 wins were the most for the Hawks since the 2015-16 season, and Snyder managed that success despite the team trading away franchise point guard Trae Young midway through the season.
From the All-Star break onwards, the Hawks finished the regular season with a 20-6 record — the best among East teams — and put up the second-best defensive rating in the league during that time (108.6), helping them secure a playoff berth.
Snyder joined the Hawks partway through the 2022-23 season after they fired head coach Nate McMillan. In his time with the team, he has a 132-135 record.
Prior to taking the job in Atlanta, Snyder had spent eight years with the Utah Jazz, taking them to the playoffs six times.
