Islanders, Alex Jefferies avoid arbitration

The trend of players agreeing to contracts before arbitration hearings continued Friday.

Minor-league winger Alex Jeffries and the New York Islanders have reached a deal before a scheduled arbitration hearing on July 30.

The deal will pay Jeffries $850,000 in the NHL or $100,000 in the AHL, with a $130,000 guarantee, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Jefferies, 24, has not played an NHL game.

He has spent the last three years with AHL Bridgeport. Jefferies had nine goals and 20 assists in 60 games last season.

The Islanders moved their AHL affiliate to Hamilton, Ont. this off-season.
