Toronto FC sign German midfielder Niklas Dorsch

Toronto FC is adding international depth to the roster.

German midfielder Niklas Dorsch has joined the MLS club via a transfer agreement with FC Heidenheim of the Bundesliga, the team announced Tuesday. The 28-year-old will play with TFC through to the 2030-31 season while occupying an international roster spot.

“We are excited to welcome Niklas to Toronto,” general manager Jason Hernandez said in a release issued by the team. “Niklas joins us after several seasons in strong European competition. His skillset, mentality and work rate will be a welcomed addition to our midfield. We look forward to Niklas playing a big role at the club for years to come.”

Dorsch had 32 appearances with 27 starts through the 2025-26 Bundesliga season. Through his two stints with FC Heidenheim, from 2018-20 and 2024-26, he recorded five goals and 10 assists over 133 appearances.

Dorsch joins Toronto FC after featuring for top-flight clubs in Germany and Belgium (Bayern Munich, Heidenheim, KAA Gent and FC Augsburg) in a combined 243 appearances, registering 12 goals and 15 assists across top European competitions.
