Canadian soccer fans had plenty to cheer about on Tuesday during the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge.
Vancouver Whitecaps star Thomas Müller and Canadian national team goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau of Orlando City won their respective events in Charlotte.
Müller set a record in the All-Star Shooting Challenge with 79 points, topping Evander’s record of 72 set last year by the FC Cincinnati midfielder.
Evander came back to tie Müller on Tuesday before the Whitecaps’ German international emerged victorious.
Müller joined the Whitecaps last August, helping the team reach the MLS final.
Crepeau won the All-Star Goalie Wars, beating Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Pedro Cruz in the final.
Crepeau topped New York City FC’s Matt Freese, the U.S. national team’s top goalkeeper, in the semifinal.
U.S. captain Tim Ream of Charlotte FC won the All-Star Passing Challenge, while Javier Ruiz of Club Necaxa (Liga MX) captured the All-Star Crossbar Challenge.
The MLS all-stars face a Liga MX team from the Mexican league in the MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte on Wednesday.
Canadian defender Richie Laryea of Toronto FC and Whitecaps midfielders Andrés Cubas and Sebastian Berhalter were also selected as MLS all-stars. The Whitecaps transferred Berhalter to English Championship club Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
MLS regular-season play resumes Friday when New York City FC hosts Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium.
