Hoping to get back into the playoff race, the Toronto Tempo have swung a deal ahead of the WNBA trade deadline.
The Tempo have acquired forward Aneesah Morrow from the Connecticut Sun for a 2028 second-round pick and the rights to forward Maria Kliundikova, the team announced Friday.
In a corresponding move, the Tempo waived guard Tima Pouye.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Aneesah to our organization,” Tempo general manager Monica Wright Rogers said in a statement issued by the team. “She’s a relentless competitor who impacts the game in so many ways, particularly with her ability to rebound at a high level. We believe she’s one of the emerging frontcourt talents in this league, and we’re excited to see her play in a Tempo uniform.”
Morrow, 23, is a second-year forward known for her two-way proficiency, particularly on the glass. She’s averaging 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds (2.7 offensive rebounds) and 1.7 assists in 23.2 minutes per game this season.
She has suited up for 20 games this season — starting nine — having missed a six-game stretch earlier in July with a leg issue and for personal reasons. She returned on July 22 and has scored 21 points in her last two outings.
Drafted seventh overall by the Sun in 2025, Morrow led the league in defensive rebounding percentage last year at 31.9 per cent.
Morrow was a prolific rebounder in college, as well, having led NCAA Division-I in rebounding as a freshman with DePaul, and again as a senior with LSU.
The Tempo (10-18) have struggled in recent weeks, losing five straight and nine of their last 10. They’re the third-worst rebounding team in the WNBA, grabbing only 31.1 boards per game, and have dealt with a bevy of injuries throughout their inaugural campaign.
