The New York Mets are playing it safe with one of their top trade chips as the deadline draws near.
Righty Freddy Peralta has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Miami Marlins on Friday as trade interest from around the league has picked up ahead of Monday’s deadline, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported.
The two-time all-star was acquired by the Mets via trade with the Brewers in the off-season and was the team’s opening-day starter.
However, Peralta has been unable to recapture the form that led to his second all-star selection last season, pitching to a 4.99 ERA and 1.478 WHIP over 22 starts.
It’s been a significant departure from the 2.70 ERA and 1.07 WHIP that earned him a fifth-place finish in National League Cy Young voting in 2025.
