Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins ejected vs. Phillies

The Toronto Blue Jays will finish the rest of Monday’s game without their hitting coach.

David Popkins was ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Philadelphia Phillies after a brief exchange with home plate umpire Jansen Visconti.

The ejection happened as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was up at the plate and the Blue Jays were down 5-1. Popkins made a comment following a strike call, and after a short back-and-forth, Visconti kicked the hitting coach out of the game.

It’s just the second coaching ejection for the Blue Jays this season after John Schneider was ejected in early April against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
