Vladimir Guerrero Jr. exited the Blue Jays’ game against the Chicago Cubs in the bottom of the sixth inning after grabbing at his back during his previous at-bat.
The 27-year-old popped up a pitch to shallow right field and reached for his back as he jogged up the first-base line.
Guerrero hit his first home run over a month against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday but was 0-for-3 on three softly hit balls before being replaced by Charles McAdoo on Friday.
Guerrero has struggled this season, hitting only four homers and producing a .279/.367/.372 slash line that is well below his career norms.
Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman walked a season-high four batters and surrendered seven runs in the first inning, and the Blue Jays trailed 11-2 in the seventh.
