Kevyn Adams is back in an NHL front office.
The Boston Bruins hired the ex-Buffalo Sabres general manager as a senior advisor to GM Don Sweeney, the team announced on Tuesday.
“As we continue to build our staff, these changes recognize the hard work and growth of people within our organization while also adding experienced voices to our group,” Sweeney said in a statement sent out by the team.
Adams served as GM in Buffalo for five-and-a-half seasons before being fired in December, just before the Sabres’ drought-busting run to the playoffs.
On the day Adams was dismissed, the Sabres were 14-14-4 and tied for last place in the Eastern Conference. After his departure, they went 36-9-5, winning the Atlantic Division and ending a 14-season playoff absence.
Adams, 51, is a former NHL forward who played for six teams over a decade. A first-round draft pick in 1993, he won a Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 before retiring in 2009.
The Bruins also announced that assistant GM Evan Gold was leaving the organization to pursue other NHL opportunities.
Gold reportedly interviewed for front-office vacancies in Toronto and Vancouver earlier this off-season.
Boston named Dennis Bonvie and Jeremy Rogalski as assistant GMs and Alex Gimenez as director of hockey operations, collective bargaining agreement.
