Canada’s Stephen Eustaquio misses training ahead of Switzerland game

A key member of Canada’s men’s national team was missing on Sunday.

Stephen Eustaquio missed training ahead of Canada’s final group stage game against Switzerland on Wednesday, according to The Athletic.

Canada Soccer didn’t provide a reason for Eustaquio’s absence.

Eustaqio was not present at Canada’s training ground in Vancouver on Sunday morning, but he’s expected to arrive later in the day.

The midfielder has started both games for Canada in the World Cup thus far, and has served as the captain while Alphonso Davies recovers from a hamstring injury. He played every minute of his nation’s 6-0 win over Qatar on Thursday.

Canada is already thin in the midfield after losing Ismael Kone with a broken leg in Thursday’s victory.

The red and white only need to draw Switzerland to reach the Round of 32.
