Claude Giroux is staying in the nation’s capital after exploring the open market.
The veteran forward agreed to a new contract with the Senators on Monday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports. Terms of the contract weren’t immediately reported.
Giroux, 38, spent the past four seasons with the Senators, where he reached playoff berths the past two seasons.
A native of nearby Hearst, Ont., Giroux was previously the longtime captain of the Philadelphia Flyers, who drafted him 22nd overall in 2006, before trading him at the 2022 deadline to the Florida Panthers
Last season, Giroux potted 14 goals and 49 points in 82 games. For his career, he’s played in 1,345 NHL games with 379 goals and 1,165 points.
