Inter Miami signs Brazilian midfielder Casemiro

Lionel Messi has a new running mate.

Inter Miami CF signed Brazilian midfielder Casemiro as a free agent, the team announced on Wednesday.

Casemiro will be under contract through 2027, with an extension option until June 2029.

“Casemiro embodies everything this club stands for: leadership, a winning mentality and an extraordinary track record at the highest level of the game,” managing owner Jorge Mas said in a statement. “After achieving virtually everything there is to achieve in (soccer), his decision to join Inter Miami shows that he shares our ambition and our commitment to the highest standards as we continue building for the future. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Inter Miami family.”

The 34-year-old Casemiro played the previous three seasons with Manchester United after a nine-year run with Real Madrid.

He is regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in soccer. During his time in Madrid, he won five UEFA Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups, three La Liga championships, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

Casemiro also has 91 caps on the international level for Brazil. He started all five of its games at the 2026 World Cup, tallying a goal and an assist.
