Caminero was forced to exit the contest after being hit by a pitch in the top of the third by St. Louis Cardinals closer Riley O’Brien.
The 23-year-old slugger was caught off guard by a 97.6 m.p.h. fastball that came high-and-in, appearing to hit Caminero in the hand area.
Caminero went to the ground immediately, and after a visit from a team trainer, ran to the AL clubhouse. He is headed to get X-rays with a Phillies doctor, per The Athletic’s Mike Gelb.
He grounded out in his first trip to the plate.
Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas entered to pinch-run for Caminero at first base.
If Caminero were to miss any time, it would mark a significant blow to the AL-best Rays.
The fourth-year star has 28 home runs and a .927 OPS through 94 games for Tampa Bay this season, earning the start at the hot corner in the Midsummer Classic.
Caminero also participated in Monday’s Home Run Derby, bowing out in the semifinals against eventual-winner Jordan Walker.
