Report: Deebo Samuel reunites with 49ers on one-year deal

Deebo Samuel will be wearing familiar colours this season

The free agent wide receiver is reuniting with the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.

Samuel spent last year with the Washington Commanders after requesting a trade from the 49ers last off-season.

In 16 games with Washington, the 30-year-old WR notched 72 grabs for 727 yards and five touchdowns, and added another score on the ground.

Samuel spent the first six years of his career in San Francisco, where he played in two Super Bowls and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021.

But in February 2025, the 49ers gave him permission to seek a trade.

“It was a hard conversation to have with (head coach) Kyle (Shanahan) because of the relationship that we have,” Samuel told ESPN at the time. “But I have to do what’s best. I’m more than thankful for the Niners giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, but now I think it’s best that we find another team.”

After posting his All-Pro season in 2021 with 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns in 2021, Samuel’s production dropped after he signed a three-year, $71.6 million extension the following off-season.

Now Samuel is back where it all began, and gives 49ers QB Brock Purdy another veteran weapon alongside Mike Evans, who the team also signed this off-season.
