Report: Spurs, Wembanyama agree to $252M extension

One of the NBA’s brightest young stars has secured a major payday.

The contract includes a player option in the fifth year.

Notably, the contract is not a supermax deal that could have been worth as much as $303 million.

Wembanyama, 22, has been one of the most dominant players in the NBA since breaking into the league as the first overall pick in 2023. Last season, he led the Spurs to the NBA Finals, was third in MVP voting and was named Defensive Player of the Year.

For his career, Wembanyama has averaged 23.4 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 blocks. The seven-foot-four centre has led the league in blocks per game in each of his first three seasons.
