Trail Blazers hire Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori as head coach

A new face will be roaming the Portland Trail Blazers’ sidelines next season.

The Trail Blazers hired former Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori as their head coach, the team announced on Tuesday.

Nori had been serving as the lead assistant with the Timberwolves after joining the team in 2021.

He has an extensive NBA coaching history dating back to 2009, leading him to become regarded as one of the league’s top assistants.

Before Minnesota, Nori worked with the Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors.

This is Nori’s first head-coaching gig.

He will be tasked to lead a Portland team coming off a 42-40 season in which it made its first playoff appearance since 2021.

The Blazers advanced past the play-in tournament but lost to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs.
